Steps

To begin, you should open Illustrator either from your desktop or by coming down to the bottom-left corner and clicking the Windows icon

This will reveal a list of your recently used programs where you may find Illustrator. It has a brown-and-orange icon with the letters "Ai".

If you still can't find Illustrator, use your search bar along the bottom and start typing "Adobe Illustrator"

Click "Adobe Illustrator CS6"

It will immediately start loading and will take you directly to your workspace.

From the workspace, click "File" in the top left-hand corner

Change the color by clicking the fill color icon

Then, create a shape by clicking "Rectangle Tool"

Click "Brushes" at the right side of the window

The icon looks like brushes in a pot. Clicking the icon with the brushes in a pot will open your brushes tab, where you will see the default Illustrator brushes.

Click the "New Brush" icon at the bottom of the pop-up box

The icon looks like a square with a folded corner.

A dialogue box will appear where you click "Scatter Brush"

A bigger dialogue box will be shown. We can start to change its settings.

Now, you can type a name for the brush in "Name"

It should be something quite descriptive and memorable. Let's name it "Test"

Then, you can click the "Size", "Spacing", "Scatter", and "Rotation" drop-down menus

Click the "Fixed" and "Random" options

It is recommended to experiment with them.

If you click "Random", you can change the variations as well

For "Fixed", drag the scrollers or manually type numbers

Click the "Rotation relative to" drop-down menu for a complicated shape

Click the "Method" drop-down menu in "Colorization"

Click "None", "Tints", "Tints and Shades", or "Hue Shift"

Click the box in "Key Color" to change the color

You can find your brush by "Test" in the "Brushes" tab

Now, you can start drawing

As you draw, there will be a blue thin line that shows where the brush will be applied.

To edit the brush settings, just double-click the "Test" brush within the "Brushes" panel

You can change some of the settings again and click "OK"
